This blog post is part of the “Blog It Forward (BIF) Chain” movement that started on the SCN a year ago. It is also my first blog under the new SCN. Just likeSusan Keohan , I registered myself in this table a while ago without anyone specifically naming me. It is mentioned by Steffi Warnecke ‘s blog Blog It Forward – Steffi Warnecke, and now to carry on the super chain.

Introduction

My name, Gordon Du, is clearly not a Western name. I have checked online and so far I have found everyone with the same last name like mine is Chinese.  My complete name given to me at birth in Chinese is GuangHui Du. My Chinese first name (Guang) means Light as in “The Ray of Light” and (Hui) means “Gathering”. In a way, my name indicates I am the one who is willing to gather and bring light together whenever it is not very bright or things might not be going right.

My home town is Tianjin – the fourth largest city in China. It ranks #8 in the world when considering the city’s total population. At the end of 2010, approximately 285 Fortune 500 companies have set up base there. I miss Tianjin very much.

In 1999, I immigrated to Vancouver, Canada with my family. As you might know, Vancouver had been named the best place to live in the world for several years. Although my second home is very different from Tianjin, I love the city of Vancouver also.

My son Mason Du, was nominated for the “Top 40 Under 40” in 2012 by the Ottawa Business Journal, and his name can be found in the article of Forty Under 40 recipients show ‘Ottawa has a great future ahead’ – Local – Ottawa Business Jo…. He has much greater potential than I do, and has started his career in a great fashion.

I have been ranked number one amongst all contributors in SCN since early 2012. About 2 months ago I fell behind Jürgen L. in points. However, since I started my SCN membership in 2008 and he first enrolled in 2005, I think I am still leading the whole SCN contributors in term of average points per year.

To summarize my entire experience with SCN into a bottom line:  It is a great place for me to add value in helping others. I obtain a good deal of satisfaction knowing that many members can get assistance from me in order to learn and then move forward.

Question from the chain

To answer the questions from the chain, here you go:

I. Name the person who affected you most in your career/ way of thinking and why?

More than one person has affected my career and my way of thinking. If only one name can be given, the first name which comes to mind is Lei Feng. When I was a child, Lei Feng stood for selflessness, modesty, sincerity, and always having a willingness to serve others. I made up my mind to follow his example. The acts of selflessness and serving people will be practiced throughout my entire life. I hopefully have never failed to help others whenever they had a need and I had the ability to assist them.

II. If you could be a super hero (or are in your spare time) who would you be?

The first super hero which came to mind was Superman. Then I checked this online superhero questionnaire to verify exactly which super hero I could be according to my personality. After answering the questions, I obtained the following result:
