I have seen some confusion in regards to how to connect, and acquire data from a SAP BW source.

Where you want to start to look is within Lumira itself.

Lumira, as you most likely know, is a fair sized download. In order to keep the size of the file down, we chose to offer additional functionality/connections as “Extensions.” Not everyone uses every bit of functionality or connection type that Lumira offers, so instead of increasing the file size but adding something you may not use, we offered some functionality as an “add-in.” Adding these capabilities to connect to your BW, or perform SQL Queries to Lumira is pretty simple, and very quick. We’ve done all the prep work for you. All you need to do is click a few buttons and restart Lumira Desktop. Here, let me show you.

To connect to the BW, please insure that the BW extension has been downloaded and installed (see below).

Select the extension you would like to install (I recommend installing both if you use the BI Platform), and click the download icon.

A restart of Lumira is required at this point.

When you try to acquire data now, the BW connection will be available.

When an update for Lumira is available, you may have to update the extensions separately by uninstalling, and reinstalling them. Same process that you just did essentially.

I hope you find this information helpful. If there are other topics you would like to see covered, please send us an email at [email protected].
