Yesterday we had another very successful meeting of the DSAG (German SAP User Group) working group for SAP & Microsoft interoperability here in Walldorf. Of the 50 registered participants (the room could not hold any more people) 45 showed up and we had quite a lot of very interesting sessions and discussions.
It all started with Developer Hero Martin Fischer from Bridging-IT (picture taken at SAP TechEd Las Vegas)
talking about his experience with SAP Gateway for Microsoft, the Excel add-in and how they were able to extend it with a Bing Maps integration to easily look-up geolocation information.
Then we had Roland Podlech from ConVista talking about the challenging of bringing teams from Microsoft and SAP together to make a successful MSS/ESS integration in SharePoint.
After lunch we had Patrick Theoblad from Theobald Software talking about their product to integrate in SharePoint.
After that it got a little more “hands-on” I first showed and talked about an easy way to get SAP data from a SAP Gateway service into Excel using the Apps for Office model.
Then we allowed participants to access virtual machines that we had prepared upfront. From there they could look at SAP Fiori My Inbox and follow steps to get the exposed workflows in Outlook. All of the participants were able to do that and at the end (after less than 1 hour) they could approve SAP workflows directly from their Outlook — both from Outlook 2013 installed on the client, and from Outlook Online in Office 365.
