When we are planning to migrate any SAP Business One database to SAP HANA , we need to setup a complete landscape to run migration . Basically there are three environments involved in the process :

  1. Source SQL server
  2. Target SAP HANA database server
  3. Windows machine we are going to run SAP Business One migration wizard (SAP Business One migration wizard   can also be run on SQL server machine )

So before running the migration we need to follow a check list to asses the readiness  of the landscape . Following are some primary checks , which could be performed before starting migration :

Readiness of the windows machine running source SQL server

  1. Make sure that all SAP Business One user on particular SQL database are offline
  2. Make sure that version of the company database is compatible for the version of migration wizard you are using if not then first upgrade the database to a patch level (SQL version )that can be migrated to the required version of SAP HANA (Kindly see Admin guide of particular version for compatible SQL company database version)
  • Readiness of the windows machine on which migration will be running
  1. Make sure correct version of JAVA is installed (Kindly see Admin guide of particular version for supported Java version ) and appended the directory $JAVA_HOME/bin to the system variable path
  2. Make sure Correct SAP HANA client for windows is installed
  3. Make sure Microsoft SQL server native client with the same version as SQL server is installed
  4. Make sure SLD server to the list of proxy exceptions
  5. Make sure Downloaded the upgrade package for the required Patch level of SAP Business One version for SAP HANA
  6. Make sure there is enough memory on the server
  7. Make sure to have admin rights to the user which is going to run the migration
  8. Make sure to install supported Microsoft .NET Framework (Kindly see Admin guide of particular version for supported .NET framework version with corresponding migration wizard)

-·       Readiness of Linux server

  1. Make sure to get installed supported service pack of SUSE Linux Enterprise (Kindly read admin guide of particular HANA revision to find out the supported service pack of SUSE )
  2. Make sure to  get  installed synchronized SAP HANA revision ,client and AFL (Kindly see overview note of particular SAP Business One version for SAP HANA for synchronized SAP HANA versions)
  3. Make sure to  get  installed target version of SAP Business One server components (Version for SAP HANA)
  4. Make sure to  have sufficient resources (Memory ,Disk ,CPU) to migrate the particular SQL database to SAP HANA
  • Readiness of the database
  1. Make sure test migration was successful before running on live as migration may fail on pre checks so it is required to fix all DB corruptions/inconsistencies before going for migration
  2. If SQL Database size is big then it is good shrink the database first which will reduce the DB size.
  • General check list
  1. The SQL Server machine, the SAP HANA server and the workstation running the migration tool should be located in the same LAN due to the large amount of exchange within the network.
  2. Identified the migration path and system landscape architecture given the current version and target version of customer’s SAP Business One system (Notes 1754451 – Central Note for SAP Business One 8.82, version for SAP HANA ,1841037 – Central Note for SAP Business One 9.0, version for SAP HANA,2001393 Central Note for SAP Business One 9.1, version for SAP HANA,and 2216144 Central Note for SAP Business One 9.2, version for SAP HANA are useful for this check )
