Annual meeting of the Centers for Very Large Business Applications
Dear University Alliances Community,
In this blog, I would like to give you a short summary from the annual meeting of the Centers for Very Large Business Applications(CVLBA) https://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-33856, which took place on January 29th, at our SAP headquarter in Walldorf.
As part of our University Alliances (UA) program, SAP is teaming up with large universities in order to bring the newest technologies to students and professors. As such CVLBA at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and Technische Universität Münchenhas have a long partnership with SAP in the research domain.
I had the pleasure to listen and provide feedback to 9 top-notch presentations on innovative development topics in enterprise software, including Cloud operations, business simulations with SAP ERP and Organizational Design of IT Risk Management.
You can find a list of all presenters and topics on the Magdeburg VLBA Lab page (https://mrcc.ovgu.de/en/vlba/home/current-detail/cvlba-jahrestagung-2014/)
I strongly believe that SAP’s next generation solutions should be designed “by Millennials for Millennials”. And the work from the students like the ones from the CVLBA program inspires us to continue and increase the close engagement with young talents.
I would like to thank Prof. Dr. Klaus Turowsk, Prof. Dr. Gerhard Schwabe and Prof. Dr. Helmut Krcmar and all the PhD students for the excellent day.
So what comes next?
We will continue and expand the dialogue between academia, customers, and SAP it in the future. To this end, we start now with an in-house event series to intensify the exchange between universities and SAP employees. Professors and PhD students will be invited to present their work in
Walldorf to SAP employees to familiarize with current university research on various topics. Those sessions will be shared afterwards with the University
Alliances.
In addition, the UA team will establish an SAP Open Innovation Platform where 100+ Top Universities will be able to engage not only in research and coinnovation with SAP and SAP´s Ecosystem, but also run industry contests and crowdsourcing projects. This platform will support our accelerating efforts to help start-up communities with our innovative technology and provide market access to start-ups including software to operate.
Besides leveraging cloud computing, the future collaboration within the CVLBA research track will focus on a strong cross-fertilization between industry and research by keeping “research rigor and relevant” (Prof. Turowski) and “closing the gap rather than bridging the gap between research and development” (Stefan Weidner).
Best whishes
